Sony Ericsson Nozomi takes on the Nexus Prime

Sony Ericsson is currently working hard on the Nozomi, a flagship phone for 2012 that combines Sony’s undoubted prowess with screen and camera tech with Android Ice Cream Sandwich and – at last! – the hardware performance a flagship phone really needs. Yes friends, I’m talking dual-core, and not just any dual-core – a 1.5GHz dual-core chip with 1GB of RAM at its disposal as well.

So finally we’ll get a Sony Ericsson phone that really can eat at the top table with the other big dogs of the Andriod world. It’s a remarkable fact that when it launches in March 2012, the Nozomi (or whatever it’ll be called) will be the first Sony Ericsson dual-core phone, over a year after everyone else launched theirs (except Nokia, of course – remember them?!).

But we can forgive Sony Ericsson that if the rest of the Nozomi’s specs are true:

  • 12 megapixel Exmor R camera, likely to be the best mobile phone camera on the market
  • 4.3″ screen with 1280 x 720 resolution, giving a pixel density of 342ppi (the iPhone 4′s is 320ppi)
  • Large 1750mAh battery
  • 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm CPU
  • Adreno 220 GPU

The Nozomi is rumoured to be launched in January 2012, and then go on sale in March 2012.

Will it be enough to take on the competition, though? Let’s not forget the Samsung Nexus Prime features a similar spec, but will be launched next week, a full 5 months ahead. That may not matter though, as the camera alone should help the Nozomi compete, particularly with the rest of the goodies this phone will have.

We’ll keep you posted!
